Standard Chartered Expands its Crypto Custody Services to EU

Standard Chartered, a leading financial multinational company based in the UK, has established a new entity in Luxembourg to provide crypto custody services to clients in the European Union.

This move is prompted by the EU’s recent implementation of the ‘Markets in Crypto Assets’ (MiCA) regulation, which presents promising opportunities in a well-regulated and financially stable environment.

Laurent Marochini, who brings valuable expertise from his previous role as Head of Innovation at Société Générale, will lead this new entity.

Standard Chartered’s expansion into Luxembourg is in line with its recent launch of similar crypto-related services in the UAE, showcasing its growing global presence in the cryptocurrency industry.

In a statement released on January 9, 2025, Margaret Harwood-Jones, Global Head of Financing & Securities Services at Standard Chartered, expressed their excitement about offering digital asset custody services to the EU region.
