Ethereum Address Moves Assets 8.5 Years After ICO

An ICO address with 492 ETH (~$1.14 million at the current value) was recently used for the first time in 8.5 years.

The coins had been held since July 30, 2015 when the cryptocurrency’s main network was launched.

On February 2, 2024, a test transaction of 0.5 ETH was made from the address, followed by a transfer of 98 ETH to the same wallet. According to Etherscan, the recipient address was created by the Kraken Bitcoin exchange in January 2022.

When the news of the long-dormant coins being moved was shared by Whale Alert, users couldn’t resist making jokes about the owner finally remembering their seed phrase.

This is not the first instance of an early Ethereum investor suddenly moving their held funds after a long period of inactivity. In April 2023, another early investor transferred 2360 out of the 2365 ETH received during the ICO to a new address, prompting similar jokes from the community.

It is worth mentioning that in March, an address that had been inactive for over five years suddenly moved 10,266 ETH, with part of the funds going to the Poloniex exchange.
