Jordan Peterson, a philosopher and professor of psychology at the University of Toronto, has called at the Bitcoin 2022 conference in Miami BTC revolutionary, but causing concern. He has said:
“The idea of a decentralized monetary system is a revolutionary idea. The more I think about it, the more worried I get.”
As a sociologist, Peterson worries about money getting out of control of the political system. According to him, new ideas can bring unintended consequences, not only positive ones. He has explained:
“We have no idea what would happen if money became truly decentralized. If we manage this, let’s say bitcoin gets the upper hand. Is it irreversible? Is this forever?”.
The philosopher has said that he does not criticize digital gold and is not pessimistic about it, but rather cautious. He has said:
“I’m not suggesting you do anything as a result of this warning. I’m just saying that the unbridled enthusiasm is based on the assumption that the new system will only do good. It’s not smart.”
In a speech at the same conference, PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel has listed Bitcoin’s biggest enemies and has called legendary investor Warren Buffett a “sociopathic grandfather.”
