Ethereum Developers Conduct Mainnet Shadow Fork

The Ethereum development team has implemented a “shadow fork” of the main network to stress test the blockchain merger process as part of the transition to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm. Paritosh Jayanti of the Ethereum Foundation has said:

“Finalizing the network and producing blocks.”

According to him, there were “some problems” with the Nethermind and Besu clients, and Erigon was also required to be synchronized.

Jayanti has warned some transactions may appear on both chains due to the exchange of information:

“This was the first time we attempted a mainnet-shadow-fork, we were expecting to learn a lot from the transition! The next week or so would be spent with sync tests against this fork and trying to trigger more edge cases. We plan on repeating it next week, for advanced users ;)”

The developers previously tested the solution several times on the Goerli testnet.
