Banco Galicia, one of the largest banks in Argentina, has opened access to cryptocurrencies for customers. Now, the bank users can purchase Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and USDC.
The bank has explained that it has decided to grant access to crypto by demand from customers, among other reasons. The bank does not offer custodial services, so the infrastructure provider Lirium is responsible for storing digital assets.
Brubank, another Argentine bank, has also announced the launch of a cryptocurrency service. Its users now can access Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDC and DAI. The company has noted that the feature will be “gradually” enabled for all customers.
The International Monetary Fund has included in the Argentine debt refinancing project a clause implying a ban on the circulation of cryptocurrencies in the country.
