Metaplanet Announces Plans to Buy More BTC

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet Inc. has announced it will issue one-year ordinary bonds worth 1.75 billion yen ($11.3 million) to purchase additional Bitcoin.

The Tokyo-listed company revealed on Monday that its board of directors had approved the issuance of these bonds, which will carry an annual interest rate of 0.36%. The funds raised from the bond issuance are earmarked for Bitcoin purchases, with the redemption date set for November 17, 2025.

Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich took to X to announce, “More Bitcoin purchases incoming.” The company has been actively acquiring Bitcoin in recent months, following its May announcement to adopt Bitcoin as a strategic treasury reserve asset.

Its latest disclosure indicates that Metaplanet currently holds 1,018.17 BTC, valued at approximately $93.5 million at current market prices. This makes the company one of the largest corporate holders of Bitcoin in Asia.
